Aberdare Trefoil Guild hosted A WALK IN THE CEMETERY in August 2004.  Members from Central Glamorgan Guilds were led by the late Mr Doug Williams - local historian.  He pointed out the resting places of many well known persons.   Mr. Doug Williams had a wealth of historical information for the ladies.  He led them to the resting place of Caradog, Telynog, Martha of Carmarthen, and Beatrice Lilian Richards (first guide in Aberdare to die 1918, etc.)

In the photos you can see the grave and tombstone of Griffith Rhys Jones, or Caradog as he was commonly known (December 21, 1834 – December 4, 1897) was a Welsh conductor of the famous ‘Côr Mawr’ of some 460 voices (the South Wales Choral Union), which twice won first prize at Crystal Palace choral competitions in London in the 1870s  Griffith Rhys Jones was born in Trecynon, near Aberdare. He worked as a blacksmith at the Aberdare Ironworks in the village of Llwydcoed.  In 1920 a statue designed by Sir William Goscombe John was erected in his honour in Victoria Square, Aberdare.

After the Walk, the ladies went up to the Visitors’ Centre, Dare Valley Country Park for light refreshments.
